Russian Revolution Timeline


Russo-Japanese War

The Russo-Japanese war grew out of rival imperial ambitions of the Russian Empire and the Empire of Japan

I. Bloody Sunday

Was the massacre of civilians protesting for their food and rights

II. Russia enters World War I

Drains them of resources and drains them of men

A. Lenin returns from exile

Lenin hopes he will destabilize the country.

1. Protests prompt Nicholas to abdicate

He abdicates the thrown by Pertograd

a. Duma sets up a temporary government

12 men were executed by Alexander Kerensky.

(1) Bolsheviks seize control

He ends up killing the Royal Family which in the end will cause him conflicts with russia

(a) Treaty of Brest-Litovsk

This treaty allowed Russia to leave the war but at certain cost The ended up losing a large portion of their land to Germany.

i) Russian Civil War

Lasted three years and was created by many mad Russians that supported the old gov't

(1) War Communism

This kept towns and the red army supplied with food.

(a) New Economic Policy

The new economic policy helped shape the outcome of the civil war.

i) Constitution establishes the Soviet Union

This takes a new gov't and unites all the southern soviet unions.

(1) Lenin Dies

He had helped stalin rise to power.

(a) Stalin take power

He won the struggle for power by tricking Trotsky. Which made him unpopular and unliked

i) Stalin's Five Year Plans

This was to improve transportation ands crease the farm output.

(1) Collectivization of the Ukraine

This lead to the peasants rebellion and lead to millions of people starving.

(a) the Great Purge

The great purge was a secret police crack down which was launched in 1934.

ii) Romanov family is murdered

Lenin paid for an assassin to kill the Romanov family.
